Ati Rage Pm Mobility Agp 2x Drivers For Mac
RAGE MOBILITY-128 AGP 2X (English) driver download and installation. Download this ATI Video Adapters device driver, then follow the procedure below. If you need help, let us know.
I am a Linux nubie. I have installed Cent OS 5.2 on a spare Thinkpad A20p (750mhz, 512mb) which has an ATI Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2X card on the PCI bus.I have tried the r128 driver, but the display is duplcated (left to right) and unusable. I have reverted to using the 'vesa' driver which solved the display problem, but the 800x600 max esolution prevents me from seeing some of the buttons etc. when using Gnome.
Sooo, is there a way to increase the resolution for the 'vesa' driver? (I understand how to edit xorg.conf) or is there a different driver I should try?
Thanks,
Roger
The chip was basically a die-shrunk Rage Pro , optimized to be very inexpensive for solutions where only basic graphics output was necessary. Windows 95 and Mac OS were not supported. This late chip was very similar to the Rage II and supported the same application coding. It was ATI’s first dual texturing renderer, in that it could output two pixels per clock two pixel pipelines. Aside from the VR chip’s lower price-point, the main difference was that the former was a full bit design, while the VR, still a bit processor internally, used a bit external memory interface.

It was also seen on Intel motherboards, as recently asand was still used in for server motherboards. This late chip was very similar to the Rage II and supported the same application coding.
This, in addition to its early lack of OpenGL support, hurt sales for what was touted to be a solid gaming solution. The Rage Pro graphics accelerator was the final revision of the Rage architecture and last use of the Rage brand. NT put them both on the AGP bus and switched between them, and so the board could only operate as a single Rage Pro with the performance of a Rage Fury card. Windows 95 and Mac OS were not supported.

In reality, early versions of the new driver only delivered increased performance in benchmarks such as Ziff-Davis ‘ 3D Winbench 98 and Final Reality. Despite the poor introduction, the name Rage Pro Turbo stuck, and eventually ATI was able to release updated versions of the driver which granted a visible performance increase in games, however this was still not enough to garner much interest from PC enthusiasts.

As a low-power solution with capable 2D-acceleration, the chip was used on many low-end graphics cards. It is the successor to the Mach series of 2D accelerators.
