First off, the book features kids using magic to manipulate the 'elements'- fire, wind, water, earth, and chaos- so it's not, like, old ladies in black cloaks chanting and stirring cauldrons. Second, the content is really PG, so if your parents wanted to prevent you from reading the book due to age-inappropriate content, it should be pretty easy to convince them to allow you to read the book. There are a few scenes with monsters in them, but they aren't super intense or gory, and the book is not explicit. I'd recommend it for ages 9-14, maybe 8, depending on reading level.(less)
